Rebirth Warriors is the educational division of Rebirth Garments!

“Sky and the Rebirth Warriors” Vimeo based TV show for all ages is coming in 2021!

Hire me to teach, lecture or give a workshop to your group, school or club! I will blow your group’s mind!

Types of Workshops and Lectures I can teach:

All ages:

  • Lecturing on Sky’s manifesto Radical Visibility: a queer and disabled dress reform movement
  • No sew fashion and performance workshop: How do you make/ hack your wardrobe to make it fully celebrate the intersection of all of your identities? We will explore the idea of Radical Visibility, a Disabled Queer dress reform movement based on highlighting the parts of us that society typically shuns. Sky will be continuously doing interactive draping demos using a no sew method of designing, using only tying together scraps, yardage and old clothing (and maybe some scissors to cut some hole for older kids), which works best to promote creativity and imagination. This is hands on dress up time for all ages. Goals: Become more radically visible and encourage students to express themselves through dress, create new zero waste silhouettes that aren’t based on mainstream fashion and analyze how clothing dictates how we feel, and move on a daily basis.
  • Creating accessible fashion- this is Sky’s expertise of course!!
  • Accessibility- some topics can include: event accessibility, creating accessible clothing, creating accessible social media content, and many more, just ask!
  • Movement workshops exploring the body as a potential art medium! Everyone who attends this workshop is encouraged to move their body at whatever level they can and want to!
  • Entrepreneurship- starting a business, running a business, preparing for taxes – all from the perspective of a filipinx nonbinary disabled and neurodivergent person (Sky!)
  • Pattern making for stretch fabrics
  • Zine workshop! or talking about my zines!

For Little Kids: any of these workshops are available but if possible be limited to 30 minute increments please!

My favorite age group to work with are teenagers!

Teacher Specific:

  • Getting comfortable with using correct pronouns with trans students.
  • Best practices for teaching students with multiply marginalized identities and making them feel safe and respected, including POC (People of Color), disabled, queer, trans and non binary students. Strategies to be inclusive and ways to handle common situations like how to approach gender in the classroom. Treating the people the same inside and outside the classroom (ex: pronouns). Losing able bodied/ minded biases. When students don’t feel respected then they will not want to learn from you, so it is very important for you to constantly learn and adapt.

Check out the fashion curriculum Sky has developed with Chicago Public Library called Radical Fit! Radical Fit is an 8 month fashion based program series that embraces craft, making and DIY while providing a safe space for teens to discuss gender equity, and to dream and create through personal expressions of style. The initiative is funded through Project Next Generation, an education technology initiative of the Illinois Secretary of State and State Librarian, Jesse White. Check out the video playlist on the YOUmedia Chicago YouTube, closed captioning in English is available on all of the videos!

The future Rebirth Warriors Youth clothing line!

We believe to be a teen or kid today, you have to be a warrior. With so much stress at school, family issues, rampant bullying etc., youth, especially disabled, gender non-conforming, POC, and fat kids deserve to be clothed in affirming soft armor. With society drenched in strict gender norms and expectations, the pressure can be unbearable.

Specializing in:

-Unisex kids/ baby clothing, and underwear—specializing in active wear such as: swimwear, dance, cycling, circus, wrestling, gymnastics, ice skating, etc.

-Gender affirming undergarments for pre-teens and teens (such as binders/ padded bras for trans and gender non conforming youth)

-Intersex friendly!

-Clothing made with adaptations to make easier for youth to dress themselves, or for a parent/caregiver/ aid to dress them. (including, but not limited to making clothing with holes for tubes to come out, clothing with less limbs, slip on neoprene shoes for wheelchair users)

– Decorations and bling for hearing aids, canes, wheelchairs, etc.

-Custom orders can be made for anything to be made with the seams on the outside (this is especially good for people with sensory/ skin sensitivities.

– Clothing and underwear are always made without itchy tags!
